  • What is included in my stay?
Lodging and meals and any activities on the farm.  If you want extra snacks or drinks we have a place to store them (Not in your tent or         you'll attract the ants!)

  • Do I need travel Insurance?

We recommend travel insurance for your trip to Costa Rica, but it is not required. We have had good experiences with Trawick, but there are many agencies.

  • Are there any recommended vaccinations?

Check with your country's recommendations, but nothing is required.  Some places recommend Malaria but we've never heard of anyone getting it in our reigon.  Tetanus is a good one to be current on, but otherwise we don't have any specific recommendations.

  • What are the accommodations like?

You'll be staying in a glamping tent on a proper mattress; there's a photo below.  They are spacious with room to stand up.  We find that shared housing is a great way to build camaraderie, but we understand some people prefer their own space and we do have rates for private housing.  Please let us know in your application if you'd like to learn more about individual housing options.  â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

  • What is the closest airport?

San José (SJO) Is the closest airport, about an hour away from La Huerta.  You can also fly into Liberia (3 hours away).  The closest towns to the farm are San Mateo and Orotina.

  • What's the best way to get to La Huerta?

People usually arrive by taxi/uber, bus, or rented car.  For taxi's we have a few reliable drivers we can recommend: Eliecer (+506 61114714) or Nester (+506 6185 2222).  Uber from the airport is a reliable and affordable option.  The buses are another option; You'll want to get to Orotina and then get a taxi from there.  If you opt to rent a car please check with us in advance to make sure there is parking space.

  • Is there laundry on site?

Yes, there is a laundry station for hand washing your clothes complete with detergent.  We also have a neighbor who can wash and dry your clothes for you for a fee.

  • How is the weather?

January - April we're in our dry season so it's rare to see rain.  Days are fairly hot, but it cools down nicely at night.  We sleep with light blankets and often wear light weight long sleeves at night.

  • What's the toilet situation?

We have two beautiful composting toilets.  It's simple and clean.  If you've never experienced them before we hope you leave wondering why you've been pooping into clean water all these years.  You're also welcome to pee outside.

  • How about the showers?

We have hot showers; a luxury in Central America.
